Janet Clemens Open Carve Classes
As far back as I can remember I have been using my hands to make things. I remember, as a child, doing bead work on a loom and drawing and painting horses racing across the landscape. I taught myself how to sew when I was 10 years old and made most of my clothes over the years. I started making quilts about 30 years ago and am still quilting for friends and family. I had a friend sign me up for a woodcarving class and I went blindly into it not knowing that it would become my passion. I knew the first time I touched the wood with a tool that I was hooked and I have never looked back. That was almost nine years ago and six years ago I started teaching at Heritage Arts Studios. I love sharing what I know with my students and helping them develop their own carving style. I have volunteered at one of the local high schools and done a number of carving demonstrations over the years. All of this has lead me to winning ribbons in carving contests, and an article about me and my carvings in Wood Carving Illustrated and a number of commissions for a gallery in Carmel, California. I am also represented at the Museum for Women in the Arts in New York. But most importantly, I have made many wonderful new friends through my carving.
